Report on Action Research
Prepared by : Aiswarya Rajan
ABSTRACT
I did my internship at RMHSS vadavucode. During
the classes it was found that students have lack of basic concepts that they studied
in the previous classes and making common errors in the exam. When I did a detailed
study, I was able to understand that majority of students are like this. Only few
students have basic concepts on topic and they follow a regular study habits.
INTRODUCTION
Action research is a type of research that
act as a quick fix. This time frame of action research is time bound and the
result will be applied to solve the identified issue.Action research projects
influences thinking skills, sense of thinking, efficacy, willingness to share
and communicate and attitudes towards the process of change. Through action
research, teachers learn about themselves, their students, their collegues and
can determine ways to continually improve. It can be describes as a family of
research methodologies which pursue action or change and research or
understanding at the same time.
IDENTIFICATION OF THE PROBLEM
The difficulty faced by the students in examinations
while learning physical science during my school internship period at RMHSS vadavucode.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
“CARELESS STUDY AND IT EFFECT ON THE
AWARENESS OF BASIC CONCEPTS AND COMMON ERRORS IN EXAMINATIONS”.
DEFINITION OF THE KEY TERMS
Learning : A process of experience that leads to change which occurs as a result
of experience and increases the potential for improved performance and future
learning.
Attitude
: It is an acquired psychological construct in a
life time through the experiences of an individual.
Physical Science : The sciences concerned with the study of inanimate natural objects
including physics, chemistry, astronomy and related subjects.
Careless Errors : Making careless errors is the problem
that arises due to not giving proper attention or concentration while studying
a topic.
Lack of base in concepts : Lack of base in concept is the
problem that arises due to unproper understanding of the concepts by students
in the previous classes.
HYPOTHESIS OF THE STUDY
1.
Daily practice and
homeworks will help to reduce the errors in the examination.
2.
Proper presentation of content
using appropriate techniques and relevant examples will increase the
concentration among students.
3.
Providing a session explaining
the need to solve numerical problems in physical science is essential to score
high marks so that it will create interest in learners.
ACTION PLAN
SAMPLE
To conduct the action research, I chosen
the students of class VIII. B of RMHSS VADAVUCODE.
DURATION OF THE STUDY
My internship classes were commenced on
October 19, 2022.At first, I was not able to find the difficulty of students to
solve numericals, but hardly as the time gies I realised their difficulty and
inability to perform a numerical in a right format. I used to take a class for
40 minutes and for each class I spend out 10 minutes to give the notes related
to the topic. Lack of concentration and the poor base in mathematical
operations made pupil to be miserable facing numerical problems.
DESIGN OF THE STUDY
The action research was done at class VIII.
B of RMHSS vadavucode to deal with the problem of basic concepts in physical
science during my school internship period. A pretest was conductes among the
students by taking a test series consists of five questions and asked them to
do it in notebook. The questions was selected from the chapter “Solution”. Only
few students corrected the answers partially and the remaining was not even
tried to solve these problems. Later, a post test was conductes. It took about
three to four weeks to finalise the action and to implement it.
PRE TEST
To identify the problem “careless study and
it’s effect on the awareness of basic concepts and the common errors in examination
“. To know about the problem I conducted a pre test. I distributed a sample questionnaire
to about 20 students in the class who were selected randomly from the attendance
register and collect their answers. Only three students were write the all answers.
ACTION PROGRAMME
On the basis of action hypothesis, the
following actions were taken so as to develop the habit of attempting numerical
problems while learning physical science.
1.
Teacher takes the class by connecting the
newly learned concepts with previously learned concepts.
2.
Teacher insists the students to
workout the problems from previous year question papers at the time of
revision.
3.
Reduce the fear of students
through regular series of tests before main examinations.
4.
Attempt and implement newer and
advanced teaching techniques to make the class more interesting.
5.
Explain about different steps
to make pupil as an expert in physical science.
6.
Reteach theory well to master
the concepts to perform numericals in a better way.
7.
Apply memorization techniques
and relate the concepts with daily life.
POST TEST
As per the plan of execution, I provided an
awareness class at first to explain the relevance of physical science and the awareness
about basic concepts while learning physical science. In the post test majority
gave right answers. Also I noted that after the implementation of the action program
they became more care about their studies and reduce their careless errors and they
understand the basic concepts of the topic
CONCLUSION
During my school internship programme, I
noticed that the students make common errors in examinations in the taught
chapter “ Solutions “. In order to make up these problems, I implemented some
actions and measures among students. After the action programme, I felt very satisfied that my effort got resulted in
the betterment of my students.
First, I conducted a pre test which
consists of five problems from the chapter and this is to check the level of
study and to measure the intensity of difficulty faced by the students. After
the action programme, I conducted a post test constisting of set of questions
and about 70% of the students develop an interest to do such numericals and
avoided careless errrors made the answers correct.
After the post test, I noticed that the
students shows positive attitude towards physical science.
